We welcome original work that advances thoughtful Christian scholarship and responsible theological practice. Please read the journal’s scope, review procedure and ethical requirements before submitting.
Prepare your submission
Supply an editable manuscript with title, abstract, keywords, a clear argument, appropriate headings and a complete bibliography containing the works cited.
For research submissions, provide an anonymous manuscript with identifying details removed, including file properties. Supply a separate title page with author names, affiliations where applicable, correspondence email, ORCID if available, and a concise biography.
Referencing: Chicago 18, Notes and Bibliography
FCT’s principal referencing standard is the Chicago Manual of Style, 18th edition, Notes and Bibliography system. Consult the official Chicago Notes and Bibliography citation guide.
Research manuscripts should include:
- Numbered scholarly footnotes identifying the sources supporting factual claims, quotations, historical arguments and interpretations.
- Specific page references where applicable and available.
- A complete bibliography containing the works cited.
- Consistent citation formatting throughout the manuscript.
- Accurate, verifiable references, without invented sources or page numbers. Verify every quotation and reference.
Appropriate discipline-specific citation conventions may be retained where editorially justified and agreed with the editor. Apply the chosen convention consistently.
Manuscript length
FCT is an online-only academic journal. There are no mandatory word counts, page limits or arbitrary article-length restrictions. Manuscripts are assessed according to scholarly quality, originality, relevance, clarity and the depth necessary to develop their arguments.
Declarations
Confirm that the manuscript is original, is not under consideration elsewhere, and is not subject to any agreement granting another journal, conference, publisher, repository, organization or other party exclusive first-publication or publication rights. Fully disclose any prior conference presentation, working paper, preprint, repository deposit or substantially related publication, together with funding, competing interests, AI assistance, permissions and ethics approvals, as applicable. A repository deposit should be described accurately rather than concealed.
Author warranties and editorial responsibility
By submitting to Faith • Civilization • Theology, authors confirm that they are the authors of the submitted work and have authority to submit it for publication; that the manuscript is original and not subject to conflicting publication rights; that all quotations, images, tables, figures and other third-party material are properly attributed and any necessary permissions have been obtained; and that, to the best of their knowledge, the manuscript does not infringe copyright, privacy, confidentiality or other legal rights and does not contain knowingly false, defamatory or unlawful material.
Authors remain responsible for the accuracy of factual claims, quotations, references, research data and disclosures.
The Editor and Faith • Civilization • Theology reserve the right to make routine editorial and copyediting changes to submitted manuscripts, including grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, readability, consistency, house style, formatting, citation style, references, typographical errors and minor objectively verifiable factual or bibliographic corrections. These changes may be made without separate author approval where they do not materially alter the author’s argument, interpretation, findings, conclusions or intended meaning.
Where substantial revision is required, the manuscript may be returned to the author for revision or approval before publication. Substantive changes affecting the author’s argument, interpretation, findings, conclusions or intended meaning will normally be referred to the author before publication.
The journal may also make reasonable editorial changes necessary to preserve research integrity, readability, legal compliance and consistency with journal policies, subject to the distinction between routine and substantive changes above.
The journal may decline or postpone publication where concerns arise regarding accuracy, authorship, plagiarism, duplicate publication, copyright, ethics, legal risk or research integrity. It retains the right to correct, amend, retract or remove published material where such concerns arise.
Contribution types
Identify the submission as research, theological reflection, ministry case study or book review. Practitioner contributions should distinguish experience and theological interpretation from empirical research claims.
Revisions
When revisions are requested, provide a revised manuscript and a point-by-point response explaining the changes or the reasons a suggestion has not been adopted.
Source Quality and Empirical Claims
Authors are responsible for ensuring that factual and empirical claims are supported by appropriate evidence.
Where a manuscript makes scientific, medical, psychological, statistical, archaeological, historical, linguistic, or other empirical claims, authors should rely primarily on relevant scholarly, peer-reviewed, primary, or authoritative sources appropriate to the discipline.
Popular websites, blogs, general-interest media, machine-translation tools, and historical or secondary materials may be cited where relevant, but they should not ordinarily serve as the principal evidentiary basis for significant scientific, medical, historical, or linguistic conclusions.
Where an argument depends substantially on an ancient or foreign-language text, authors should engage appropriate critical editions, scholarly translations, lexicons, specialist literature, or qualified linguistic scholarship.
Claims based on disputed evidence should be identified as disputed, interpretive, or provisional rather than presented as established fact.
Faith • Civilization • Theology may request stronger sourcing, clarification, qualification, supporting evidence, or revision before peer review or publication.
